  • Whew, look at all the cobwebs...

Still in the midst of brushing away the cobwebs on my blog. I think I saw a big spider scurrying away...

Lots of things happened in the past couple of months. My husband became a victim of the recession, but he's found another job now. A better one. Our plans have changed and we're keeping our fingers crossed that we get good news in November (can't say about what yet).

Things have not really worked out the way we wanted them to, but we've learned to pick ourselves up each time we fall and keep moving forward.

Anyway, we took a trip to Snowdonia, Wales last weekend. Absolutely beautiful place.  My parents will definitely love it!

Right....I've got more pics to upload, but the Xanga photo uploader has sort of crashed. So, I'll upload more pics later.

  • Another week...

What do you do when you yearn for a break but the situation dictates that you keep going on?

How do you appear strong when on the inside you're slowly wilting?

Why does my hamster keep trying to dislodge its house from the 2nd level and chuck it down to the 1st level in the cage??

It's been raining daily for the past week or so. And it looks like the ducks down at the river have been washed away by all that rain. Poor things.

I haven't blogged for a long time. Been too preoccupied with work. Need a change.

  • Monday...

Reading that the economy is possibly on the rebound now was the best bit of news I had this morning. But it got me thinking again about our lives here and what will happen next.

The whole retrenchment scare we experienced earlier was truly like having a bucket of cold water dumped on us. Our enthusiasm and excitement over our new life here fizzled out a little and we were left feeling very much unsettled. I did not manage the possibility of having to return to Malaysia / Singapore to start over again very well, I must say.

    That possibility downright sucked.

The sad part is, we're still on edge right now as the whole job situation here is still quite uncertain. We will probably have to live with this feeling for a long time to come.

Such is the life of an immigrant, I guess.

  • Of farms and sheep...

April 10 (Good Friday) - We went to Welshpool with our cycles. My first visit to Wales, and to to think it was only a 20-minute train ride from where we're staying.

I imagined Welshpool to be  really green with loads of farms and sheep and cows. And....I was not disappointed.

Very green, very sheep-py, very fresh and beautiful.   It is places like this that inspired us to come to this country in the first place. Aahhh...bliss.

We rode on the steam engine from Welshpool to Llanfair.

He got hungry.                                                            The famous grouse...heh heh.

We came across a bunch of ducklings. Cutest things ever!

    Hello!

    It's SPRING!

The two things that put me off:

    1)  The spring insects that kept trying to fly into my mouth and choke me; and
    2)  The damn, cheap, hard bicycle seat that hurt my ass. Damn seat.

  • *Gasp*

I saw today, for the first time, exactly how DAMAGED the skin on my face is.

I went for my appointment with Claremont Skin Clinic for the initial consultation and skin analysis. I had to take off all my makeup and stick my face in a skin scanner unit where I could see for myself exactly what damage I had suffered.

I knew my acne scars were gonna show up big time and my sun spots as well, but what I saw with my own eyes was horrible! My face was littered with acne scars and sun damage -  almost every inch was covered in dark spots!!

I looked like something out of a Halloween movie. OK, maybe I'm being a little melodramatic.

Then I had to have a picture of my face taken with the Beau Visage analysis system which gives you an incredibly comprehensive skincare analysis as it uses a camera that looks up to 2mm beneath the surface of the skin. The system assesses your face for distribution of melanin, sun damage and blood and also calculates the age of your face.

That's obviously not me (I plucked the pic from another site), but the damage on my cheeks looked worse than hers.

So, before things get worse, I'm gonna fix it with IPL. I'll blog more once I start treatments.

This better work. I've got only one face afterall.

  • More duck tales...

There are some things that I want to blog about but which I can't at this moment, so....I'm just going to write more about the duckies.

I decided to continue feeding the ducks with bread. But I did try other types of bread. Healthier ones, actually. They were all rejected by the ducks (can't believe it, those duckies actually prefer the cheap, white bread). They stared at the bread, 'sniffed' at them, and then turned to stare at me like they were asking "What kinda fancy crap are you feeding us with??".

Oh well. At least I tried. So, it's back to the cheap, white bread.

My husband and I noticed there is some sort of ranking among the groups of ducks when it comes to feeding - the female gets to eat first, followed by what appears to be the 'alpha' duck. The other ducks in the same group are forced to the sides and get attacked by the 'alpha' duck if they eat as well before the female is done.

Some take the risk though and steal the bread pieces...and then run away.

  • Thursday...

I just found out that feeding bread to ducks may actually harm their digestive system.

I feel bad; I've been feeding bread to the ducks and swans down at the River Severn. They seem to like it and would sometimes fight for the bread also. And I don't recall seeing any of them go belly up after eating (OK, maybe only fish do that, but still...).

It's bad for them, but apparently if everyone stopped feeding them, they might also die since these ducks might not be able to find enough food in the section of the river that runs through the town (I can personally vouch that I've not seen any fishies or frogies in the river so far).

Hmmm...  I'll have to think about this more.

Staying put. Eugene's having a CNY party on the 30th but we've declined, we'll be having a couple of guests over plus can't afford to do too much travelling also. This will be a lousy CNY for me, second one here.

What are your plans this CNY? Heading over to Eugene's place or staying put?
